Some property repairs can be
carried out yourself without the need for a professional, saving
you time and money. Here are a few tips to try before calling the
professionals in.
Hot Water
If your hot water service suddenly puts you in a freeze, check
that the unit is still working. If it's an electric hot water
system, check that the breaker is still set to ON in the switch box
(usually located in the property or outside nearby). If the unit is
gas, use extreme caution and check that the pilot light is still
lit. If the pilot light is without flame, follow the instructions
on the hot water service or the users' manual to re-light the pilot
light.
Plumbing
When experiencing a problem with plumbing, always find the source
of the issue before continuing to use the plumbing system, as
water/sewerage damage can be very costly.
For blocked drains, use commercially available products (i.e.
Draino) or pour hot water down the offending drain to loosen the
blockage.
Broken Windows
If a broken window is the result of an accident, it may be covered
under your property agreement. Please contact your property
manager.
Electrical Issues
If you experience problems with the electrical systems in the
property, first check the switch box as the safety may have been
activated (usually located in the property outside nearby). If
breakers are set to OFF, simply switch them back ON. If it's a
light that is out, have you checked the globe? If you still cannot
resolve the issue, it's best to contact your property manager as
electrical issues can be dangerous when not handled correctly and
safely.
Locksmith
If you're locked out of your property, is it your responsibility?
With permission from the property manager, it's advisable to have a
spare key to the property that you can gain access to should you
lose your keys. If you need to use a locksmith, please call
ParkTrent prior to using the service. Please also be advised that a
locksmith may not be covered as part of your rental
agreement.
